Kristen and I have made a pact to train for a 5K together this summer. Not sure if we’ll actually do the same race together since we do live several hours apart, but the goal will give us something to talk about besides kid poop and teething. Derek’s first response to this news was “You? Run?” followed by uproarious laughter. I am not exactly known for my athletic prowess. But if Kristen can do it right after having a baby, I can do it in this high-energy post-nursing stage, right?
I’ve found my tennis shoes and printed out a training plan…please check up with me and see if I’m sticking to it.
Any other moms want to try to lose that extra baby weight be cool and sporty with us?
Oh dear… you’ve incriminated me on here. Ok. Monday. I am going for a walk. That’s a good place to start. BUT I AM SOOOO TIRED IN THE MORNING AND THAT’S THE ONLY TIME IT’S COOL ENOUGH! Kristen, stop complaining and JUST DO IT.
I need to blog about it, too. What plan did you print?
Derek, don’t laugh. When Sarah Allen first met me, she thought I was a runner. That’s gotta count for something.
I’m doing the 9-week couch potato plan–it best described my total lack of physical fitness starting out: http://www.coolrunning.com/cgi-bin/moxiebin/bm_tools.cgi?print=181;s=2_3;site=1
I think Derek was laughing at me, not you!
I just saw that couch-to-5K off of someone else’s blog–very cool! While I’m not doing a specific plan, I’ve been trying to run more (instead of just walking), and when David’s sister was here this past week, she really pushed me hard to run instead of just walk. I made it about half-way around my 3 mile loop! But my real goal for this summer is mountain biking around the lake that David’s family’s cabin is on in Montana while we’re there for 2 weeks. It’s a 13-mile loop, and very, uh, mountainous. I’d like to be able to do that 3 times a week while we’re there. We’ll see if I can pull it off 🙂
And here’s the part I forgot: YOU CAN DO IT! Every time you want to quit, imagine Derek laughing, and that’ll make you go further. Always works for me 🙂
YOU CAN SO DO THIS! I have full confidence in your ability and will power! GO YOU!!
YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!
I’m thinking about training for a run in the winter. We’re in the middle of PX90 right now and I can’t imagine adding more workout on top of it.
To rehabilitate myself, I didn’t laugh at Em’s ability to exercise or be physically fit. She’s a great power walker. I was just recalling what she’d always said–she doesn’t run. But she’s set to prove me (and her former self) wrong!
Yay, us. Again.
I love that there is a fitness plan called “couch potato”! Good for you, Emily! I sooo need to get the rear in gear and lose my Liam weight. He is almost 6 months old, so I figure the time is now! Best of luck with your training! 🙂
Emily, I’m so excited for you! Christopher’s sister, Alanna and I were going to train for a half marathon in Memphis (where she lives) in December, but with the whole pregnancy thing… well, there’s a season for everything, right? 😉 I’m hoping I might still be able to go cheer her on — and maybe do a fun-run or 5k 🙂 We’ll see!
