Skating in Millennium Park

skating.jpgDerek found an alternate method of transferring our photos!  So today, we decided to hit up the free outdoor ice skating rink down in Millennium Park.  It was Tommy’s first time on skates, and he lasted about half an hour.  Our backs were done for after all that leaning over (he doesn’t have the balance thing figured out on ice yet), but it was definitely a fun family activity!

have you seen those skates that have two blades on each skate? we had those as kids and it really helped!

Well, Millennium Park was kindof lame in the skate rental dept. They only had hockey skates, which are way harder for little kids to learn on (in my MANY years’ experience of teaching learn-to-skate), and the smallest size they had was an 8 (Tommy is a 7). But I’m thinking that if we go again, I should just buy some better used skates for Tommy, and I hadn’t thought of the double blades. They’re great for this age!

That looks like back-breaking work! It was probably really fun, though!

awww HOW FUN!!! I totally miss ice skating… it’s too balmy here, and I don’t think the Romans would even know what to do with skates. In any case, you just inspired me to check out the local rink when C and I get back to Mishawaka 🙂
