My Sundress Attempt

Last week I picked up a dress pattern at Walmart on a whim, and here are results #2 and 3 (#1 had to be thrown away because I foolishly followed the directions exactly with disasterous results):

(and another pic just because Tommy wanted to be in one:)

I’m not thrilled with the pattern (I actually gleefully crumpled it up and threw it away), but these are fine for a two year old.  The fabric was just leftovers from her quilt, so essentially free.=)

NB: I do not actually enjoy making clothes.  I de-stress when I quilt or sew felt food, but the process of following clothing pattern directions that don’t in fact work frustrates me to no end.  I’m not exactly a newbie–I’ve probably made 30+ dresses since my early teens–but I think I’ll save my enthusiasm for crafts and let myself buy Elizabeth some cute summer dresses at the consignment sale this week…

the second one is especially cute. 🙂

They’re both cute, but I really love the ruffle on the second one! I’ve made M a few dresses out of old shirts of mine, but I always just wing it–I don’t do well with patterns. This has worked in some cases and not in others. I also love how much Elizabeth looks like Tommy in the picture with the second dress. You can definitely tell they’re siblings!

Love these!! I especially like the second one. And the fabric is fantastic. Little girls look so cute in small prints.
I can relate to your pattern frustration. I threw away the last two thing I sewed for Evangeline because they turned out terribly in spite of having patterns. ::sigh:: I’m thinking about giving up sewing for the summer. Next fall, I want to make a teepee for the kids, and I’d really like to try sewing quilts for them when they graduate into bunk beds. You and Anna inspire me with your quilts. Maybe I can drive over to Cali and you can help me get started!
