Well, I pulled out my maternity box today and wore a maternity top. I’m halfway done with the switch-over from normal/fat clothes to belly clothes. But I wasn’t showing enough to avoid confusion tonight at a dinner party for Derek’s work. One of his coworkers asked me what I’m doing and I said I chase around our 21 month old (that sounds more active and impressive than being a stay-at-home-mom). I guess I thought he knew Tommy was a boy and that we’re expecting, because when he asked if our “baby” was a boy or a girl, I told him “We don’t know yet.” There was this moment of awkward silence when suddenly I realized he was asking about Tommy, not the baby, and Derek had to explain that we have a boy and another surprise on the way… The guy looked very relieved–apparently he thought we were raising our child progressively to allow him or her to pick his or her own gender. I guess I need to adjust my job description to “chasing around our 21 month old BOY!”
