We spent Sunday afternoon up at the Santa Barbara Zoo’s Snow Leopard Festival. The way people out here do “winter” is to import a bunch of fake snow and then charge parents an arm and a leg to stand in line for 15 minutes at a time so that the kids can “sled” down a fake “hill” in “snow” in 65 degree sunshine. Since Michigan failed us on the snow front last Christmas, we ignored the pathetic aspect of this practice and went with it like true SoCal natives. We’d planned to meet up with the Pelttaris until David got sick, but it was still a fun family outing even without our friends. Oh–and this was the first time I used my new camera lens!
Fortunately, our snow pants from two years ago still fit the big kids…
After his first run, Tommy said that sledding was his favorite thing he’d ever done at the zoo.
Making a snow angel is a little uncomfortable when you don’t have a coat on.
It shouldn’t have surprised us that our littlest daredevil loved sledding, too!
Cheering for Tommy!
Elizabeth was the only one interested in hugging the penguin and snowman. I think they traumatized the other two the way clowns do.

This cracks me up!!!
Oh my goodness! The girls will get a kick out of this tomorrow 🙂 Still snow-less in Michigan this winter… we might be wishing we could go pay to play in the snow (if only it could be warm, too!).
Looks like they had a ball! We have snow in Northern Michigan, but will be gone in a few days as we have 40 degree weather rolling in. It’s pretty now though….
