This year has been a little disappointing on the Christmas music front. Elizabeth was too sick to go to CBS yesterday, so only Tommy got to sing in the children’s program Christmas recital. And the lighting was terrible, so the pictures are rough. He did a great job, though, singing the loudest of any kid up there!
I’ve also struggled with the lack of traditional Christmas music out here in general, so I’ve tried to compensate by listening to Amahl and the Night Visitors, my absolute favorite Christmas album.
Amahl is an opera about a poor crippled boy and his mother who welcome the three kings on their way to find Jesus. It has beautiful music that always evokes the advent season for me! I love it so much I stole my family’s copy of the CD for enough years that my parents gave in and gave it to me for Christmas a couple years ago. =)
And the kids are supposed to do a little children’s choir at church for the Christmas Eve service, so maybe we’ll get some cute footage of the kids singing then…

Amahl is one of my favorites too! I used to listen to it on cassette tape as I was going to bed – and I think I might have the whole thing still nearly memorized 🙂 Do the kids like it too?
