[composed over the course of the summer] This year, we’ve attended six very different weddings. Here’s a quick look back… #1–Bride was Em’s high school/church friend. Most memorable moment–getting the invitation and reading that the couple were not accepting gifts for their wedding. Guests were encouraged to donate to the homeless ministry that they work […]

Decades of T-shirts
Posted in Family on Aug 28th, 2008
I’ve acquired many T-shirts over the years. (The OED capitalizes the “T.”) Many are difficult to part with, even though I rarely wear them anymore. They are imbued with nostalgia, with sweat marks, and with delightful dyes. Each has a story. Alas, as I have aged to a ripe six-and-twenty, I now enter a professional […]
Today was Tommy’s last day in our Manderly Drive house. I was so sad about all the “lasts”…last night in his room, last playtime in the basement, last climb up the stairs, last nap in St Louis. I told him to say “bye-bye” to our house, but he was so excited to get into the […]
A Two Car Family
Posted in Family on Aug 14th, 2008
We can now announce the most exciting news of the week–we are now a two-car family! Here is a stock photo (since our camera/computer issues continue) of our beautiful new (for us) 2005 Saturn Vue. Now some of my readers may be wondering…didn’t Emily just email me this weekend to ask about bikes? Wasn’t she […]
A clerk no more
Posted in Family on Aug 8th, 2008
Derek’s officially done with his clerkship. He drove into work today and cleared out his office, bringing back his diploma, pictures, and Tigers memorabilia. In the six weeks before starting at K&E, we have quite the relaxing schedule planned–car trips to Detroit and Denver, company in St Louis and Chicago, and The Move. We’re hoping […]
Well, for those of you who’ve wondered if I’d dropped off the face of the earth or just had become really rude because I haven’t answered your emails, letters, or phone calls, I can now reveal why! Yesterday we threw a big surprise party in honor of my parents’ 30th wedding anniversary (which is actually […]
We’re home again in St Louis after a very full five days of midwestern adventures. Here are the highlights from our trip: Tommy’s first McDonalds Happy Meal (Grandma and I were SO excited, but he was unimpressed with the burger, milk, and apple dippers–and the lame toy. He just wanted to play in the outdoor playplace […]
Four Years
Posted in Family on Jul 31st, 2008
It’s July 31, so I’m postponing our trip roundup post for another day. Four years ago today Derek and I united before God (and 250 friends) in the covenant of marriage. This is by far our best anniversary yet! Our first was spent apart–I was driving home across New Mexico alone and Derek was staying […]
Still playing catch-up from last week’s dead battery lull… With John in town post-eye surgery, Tommy finally got to bond with his least-known uncle. I think the two share a similar sense of humor, and rumor has it that they love hanging out together….
Last night Grandma and Grandpa and Uncle Peter and Uncle John all came out to go to their first Cards game with us! Since Tommy’s an old pro at Busch Stadium, he thought it was important to stay up for the whole time…
