We’ve started saying our goodbyes, and strangely enough, I’m feeling a little sad about leaving Chicago. Wow! What a difference a year makes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very excited about getting out of big city traffic, being able to drive to someone’s house and (gasp!) just park out front (for free!) without circling for […]

Since it’s in the 80s and our AC isn’t working, we thought it would be a splendid plan to take the kids to the beach for the morning. After all, it’s free (well, not anymore now that there are meters at all public parking lots, apparently…), and Tommy loved it last year! Well, I’m glad we […]
At the church picnic today, Tommy and Gabrielle decided to beat the heat by lounging in the dirt of the baseball diamond. By the time we left, Tommy had been eating dirt, was orange from scalp to toes, and had to be stripped before getting in the car. Kids these days!
Chicago Museums: The Nature Museum

Today we visited The Notebaert Nature Museum. As a homeschooling mom, I would give it 3/5 stars. I actually enjoyed the Planetarium more, but this has more potential educational value for younger kids. Key Age Range: PreK to elementary. Time: This morning we did everything except the water exhibit, and it took us an hour, including a […]

Today we visited The Museum of Science and Industry. As a homeschooling mom, I would give it 5/5 stars (our favorite thing to do in Chicago)! We go several times a year, and we often take guests there. Key Age Range: PreK to Adult, with exhibits that can be enjoyed on a variety of levels. Time: […]
So the stomach flu has hit us full force. Derek’s still under the weather, I’m queasy but trying to hold things together, Lizzie’s fussy but just threw up once yesterday (and maybe it was spit up), and Tommy has been throwing up today. Our house is the worst it’s ever been–mounds of dirty and clean […]
Theology with Tommy

Overheard while making dinner… Tommy: Mommy, David did kill Goliath. Mommy: Yes, he did! T: Why did David kill Goliath? M: Well, Goliath hated God’s people, didn’t he? He wanted to rule over them. So David had to fight him. T: Why did he want God’s people to stay slaves? M: Um…? T: We are […]
Twelve month visit for the Little One yesterday–all looks good, and Tommy held her hand during her two shots so that she could be brave. My kids react remarkably well to their vaccinations. For every anti-vaccine blog story you read, call me, and I’ll tell you how doing them by the book has been perfectly […]
We just dropped the guys off at the L to go see Tommy’s first Cubs game! He actually has been to Wrigley in utero, but I don’t think he remembers much of it.=) It’s supposed to be a balmy 52, so the guys layered up in preparation. Here’s hoping they have fun!
Chicago Museums: Adler Planetarium

With Daddy home this month, we’re going to try to take advantage of museum free days and library passes to hit up all the museums we’ve missed…and the ones we want to see one last time! Today we visited Adler Planetarium. As a homeschooling mom, I would give it 2.5/5 stars (worth a free day, […]
