Susanna at Seven Months
Nov 19th, 2011 by ECM
Well, we can’t keep this girl in one place anymore! Her crawls are getting a lot better–4 or 5 at a time–and although she can sit up, she rarely chooses to because she wants to go places and chew things. The big kids are learning that they can’t leave anything papery on the floor. Susanna won’t even lie still for a diaper change–she wants to squirm, roll, and otherwise make things hard for us. She’s getting better at eating real food–pear, banana, and avocado from the mesh ring, and green beans and sweet potatoes. She is not a fan of rice or oat cereal. It took me well over 200 tries to get some fairly still photos…
“Where are the kids?!”
Nov 18th, 2011 by ECM
The other night, Grandma went in before bed to check on the kids. This is what she saw, to her great consternation:
She came out slightly panicked, asking, “Where are the kids?!”
A bit of searching revealed that they had pulled their pillows, stuffed animals, and Tommy’s quilt down under Elizabeth’s bed and had fallen asleep there.
They were not too pleased to be dragged out and put back in their beds!

Our Current Playlist

We’ve been on the search for good (preferably ESV) scripture memory music for some time now, and here’s what we’re listening to these days…
The Seeds Family Worship CDs are great, upbeat, noncheesy albums with the kinds of verses we’d like to have memorized. The first several are NIV, but they’ve now switched over to ESV. We love listening to them in the car. When I thought I was miscarrying Susanna back in fall of 2010, the song that just happened to be playing on my way to get an ultrasound was Philippians 1:6, and I’ve come to think of it as a special promise for Susanna’s life–“being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ.” After seeing her little heart still beating, I drove home listening to 2 Corinthians 5:17–“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone, the new has come.” Good stuff.
Children Desiring God has a couple of the song CDs that correspond with their Fighter Verses program. They’re not necessarily geared toward children, but my kids still listen to them, especially the tracks with kids singing. I picked them up before our cross-country trek, and while the catchiness of the songs varies, they’ve worked really well at getting some of those scriptures stuck in our heads. The other day, I overheard Tommy singing Proverbs 3:11-12 (“My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline or be weary of His reproof. For the Lord reproves Him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.”) I did not teach him that. Pretty cool, huh?
And along the lines of (non-scripture) memorization, the kids are also obsessed with the Veggie Tales CDs that they got in their Chick-fil-a kid’s meals a while back. I’ve relegated them to bedtime, because honestly, I couldn’t take much more during waking hours. Tommy’s word for word recitation of the stories and songs is enough for me. =)
Video Chatting
Nov 12th, 2011 by ECM
I’ve had very little voice all week, what with my awful cold and all, and my parents have been helping out by getting our favorite books out of the library and reading aloud to the kids via google chat. The other night, though, Tommy decided he needed to read to Grandpa!
And then last night, while video chatting with the other grandparents, we decided to put Susie down on the floor to show how close she is to crawling. And then she started crawling! Since Mom and Dad Muller missed Tommy’s first crawls by a matter of minutes, it was so cool to have them get to see it live this time!
Yay for modern technology!
