Go Sunshine Lollypops!

Elizabeth’s soccer team came over last night for a team meeting with Coach Derek.  Our newest soccer player was literally bouncing up and down with excitement as each little girl came in.  They picked the name “Sunshine Lollypops” for their team, and the first game is Saturday.  This afternoon, Tommy is giving our favorite Sunshine Lollypop some pre-game coaching!  This year, she’s #4, and last year, he was.  Obviously a fact that Mommy needs to put on the blog!

Mesopotamian History

We read about King Sargon today, and the big kids are coloring pictures and maps.

Scenes from School

We’re doing school today, sortof.  Janie woke up at 5 am, went down for a nap at 8 am, and was back up at 9 am.  So we rushed to get some school in between 8 and 9, but we’re taking a break until her next nap.  In the meantime, here are a couple school scenes…

Elizabeth has started learning typing!  She is excited to be able to type emails to her grandmas one day.

Breakfast Win

What do you know, if you add a sprinkle of mini chocolate chips to the oatmeal, Janie will eat thirds!

Second Day of School

Yesterday was a little rougher than Monday.  I didn’t get up as early, and the kids were a bit crabby.  Susie in particular is just testing limits nonstop, all day long.  But we still survived!

First Day of School!

Today Charis Classical Academy was pleased to welcome Miss Elizabeth Muller into our grammar stage program.  Miss Muller’s admittance doubled our elementary enrollment, and she had a splendid first day of kindergarten, studying Bible, history, writing, phonics, math, Latin, and physical science.   Our most seasoned scholar, Master Tommy Muller, shared most of the above courses with his sister, adding in his own math and spelling.  The preschool department was delighted at the potty success of Miss Susie Q, who finally finished the potty sticker chart she started mid-summer and won those legos she’s been wanting for months.  Classes ran smoothly due to a long morning nap by Miss Jane-Bug.  Our headmistress rose before dawn to make the incoming students blueberry muffins for breakfast, to the delight of both our grammar stage students and our play-based preschool contingent.  Even with a long recess mid-morning for soccer drills, the students completed their main work before lunchtime and plan to spend the afternoon on a fun project.

Photo Dump: The Magic House

I’ve been too busy lesson planning to take any pictures this week, but here are some pictures from our back-to-back visits to the Magic House in St Louis last week!  It’s definitely our favorite children’s museum.  What can I say…Missouri is just full of great people and places!

Janie at 17 months

We got home yesterday and are trying to get organized.  But since today is Janie’s 17 month birthday, I’ll do a quick update on her!

I had a really sweet morning alone with her last week while Grandma and Grandpa took the big kids to the MO State Fair.  One thing that I discovered was that Janie is a singer!  She babbles all the time and seems to repeat words (last week’s funniest one was “cockpit”–we’d been talking about Uncle John’s helicopter), but she also has started to sing little wordless tunes to herself.  She has finally started feeding herself with utensils (her own food or others’ food, whichever is within reach).

Her clearest words are Mommy and NO.  She does a hilarious half-somersault position with her forehead on the ground whenever she’s really upset.  She has really started scribbling and is now reaching for art supplies as often as her siblings.

100 hours and 19 minutes in the car was a lot. By the last day, I was letting her watch Pooh on the dvd player.

Girls-Only Date

Since Derek and Tommy went to a KC Royals game last night, we girls decided to have our own date at Andy’s.  The custard was just as good as I remembered…
