She’s looking more and more like Tommy…
I have so many little matters to tell you of, that I cannot wait any longer before I begin to put them down.

Elizabeth wanted a birthday party this year, and I didn’t have a new baby as an excuse. So we went all out with the all-girls theme, inviting two other homeschooling families of girls over for a “ballerina-princess-dancing” party. Lizzie was in heaven. Tommy retreated to his room, shut the door, and did not show his face again until everyone was gone!

Our girlie-girl is five!
The newest development of the past month or two is calling herself Eliza, or at least signing her papers Eliza (because those last b-e-t-h letters are just too long!). Some of the helpers at church think her name is Eliza, so they’re confused that her nametag says Elizabeth while Derek (who usually picks her up) calls her Lizzie. She is also playing with her dolls all the time these days. I’m always hearing her talking to Betsy and Lucy the bear (or Felicity and Elsa, her AG mini dolls), and she’s back to narrating her life again. (When she narrates, though, she’s still Lizzie or Elizabeth or Mother.) I love how the dollies are making their way all over the house!
Our girl has become quite domestic of late. In addition to caring for her babies (and scolding us if we’re being too loud for them to sleep), she “dance cleans” (to the Rogers and Hammerstein Cinderella soundtrack). She has been enthusiastically hand-sewing felt doughnuts and has mentioned several times how much she’d like to have a sewing machine like Mommy’s. My mom and I did a bit of research and found that Janome makes well-rated kid machines in purple! When Elizabeth opened Grandma and Grandpa’s present today, she was speechless with joy. When we sat down to make a dress for Betsy this afternoon, she immediately knew what to do after having watched me sew so many times.
While she can be sulky and still sucks her right index finger (which replaced her thumb) when mad or bored, Elizabeth is generally cheerful, helpful, and pretty grown-up. What a blessing to have her in our family!

Poor Q has been fighting something off this week. She was acting unusually lethargic Monday and Tuesday, but I thought it was just catching up on sleep or teething or something. Then she woke up from her (3.5 hour) nap yesterday with a 101 fever. And last night she was up twice, feverish. I cancelled our play date for today and stuck her in my room with Frozen to keep her away from the other kids. She’s feeling awfully chipper midway through Cinderella now…and the other kids are wondering why they can’t spend the day in front of the TV…

Derek recently found out about a really neat beach restaurant in Malibu, so we took Grandma and Grandpa there today and spent the morning at the beach!
Janie LOVED the water. She just wanted to stand and get splashed by waves over and over again. When someone got tired of holding her up and tried to bring her back to the towels, she screamed until another adult took her back down to the water. She’s a beach baby for sure!

Susanna went in for her three year check-up today. She loved the one-on-one time while everyone else was staying home with Grandma and Grandpa! She’s developmentally fine and has climbed to 4th percentile for BMI. That is cause for rejoicing around here!
Height: 37 1/4 in (46%) (Elizabeth was 37 inches, Tommy was 38 3/4 in)
Weight: 27.4 lbs (17%) (Elizabeth was 33 lbs, Tommy was 38 lbs)
Blood Pressure: 80/58
