The Ball!

ball costumes Our weekend plans got a little more complicated when Tommy’s babysitter (aka Grandma) busted her ankle….but we got him over to Columbia, anyway.  The whole separation was way harder for me than it was for him, but I did manage to have fun some of the time.  Our bed and breakfast was quite the unfeminine place.  No Martha Stewart recipes or cute homemade quilts–no, grilled steak for breakfast, a drunk assistant proprietor, and meals almost an hour after we’d asked for them.  I’ll be composing a full review for bedandbreakfast.com tomorrow.

The ball, however, was a blast!  Here is the facebook album of all my pictures that came out.  I wish we’d had more of us (and specifically of my dress after all that trouble), but we haven’t gotten pictures from our friends yet.

Your dress is beaUtiful!!! I love the cut and color!!! What kind of fabric did you use?

The dress is pretty–how long did it take?

Carver and Ellie have enjoyed looking at the pictures of Tommy 🙂

Well, the fabric is lining material–thin faux silk–but it fell about as nicely as the real thing. It’s supposed to look like Marianne’s ball gown in the ’95 S&S movie. =)

Since I haven’t sewn period clothing by myself before, I did two practice dresses with dollar fabric first, so it probably took me about 10 hours to do the corset/authentic underpinnings, 5 hours for each of the practice dresses, and maybe 8 for the final product. I was definitely sewing on buttons and threading ribbons through casings right before the ball!
