A Saturday Night Assessment

Tonight Derek and I mused on Tommy’s development compared to other babies his age.  Here are our (unscientific) conclusions on how he stacks up to other 15 month olds…

Ahead

  • Eating (tonight’s dinner of a hamburger, banana, bread, and two slices of watermelon puts him ahead of many adults)
  • Manners (well, really just saying “please” in baby sign language…he’s found that patting his tummy is so effective in getting Mommy to give him food and ricemilk that he spends about half of his waking hours asking politely for more food and ricemilk…)

Behind

  • Growing teeth.  Come on!  Five teeth used to be impressive, but most of the other babies in the toddler nursery have a nearly-full mouth!
  • Saying Mama.  He CAN say it, and does occasionally if he’s really, really upset, but on a daily or weekly basis?  Nope.  Everything is Uh-Oh.

Are we really concerned about Tommy’s development?  No.  He’s generally a chubby, active, happy boy, and we love him just the way he is!

  1. Derek says:

    To add:

Ahead: Descending stairs, interest in hygiene (toothbrush, bathtub, etc.), sweeping floors

Behind: Talking to family on the telephone, sitting through a complete Curious George story, identifying his nose as his nose instead of his eyes
