So remember those ugly boxes in the tour of our living room? I was so ashamed to put those up yesterday that I decided to go to Target and buy some shelves. I had a mirror to return, and I figured Tommy was in a pretty good mood, so we could handle it. It’s been one of those weeks, when I cry about disciplining my incredibly naughty son way more than he does when he gets disciplined, and I treated myself to a pumpkin spice latte as we cruised the aisles of Target, looking for classy, cheap bookshelves. All was well until we drifted into the food aisles to look for garbanzo beans for dinner. I made the mistake of setting my cup (well wedged, I thought) in the cart, and as I turned to grab the can of beans, Tommy’s shrieks and a pumpkin smell alerted me to the fact that he’d spilled my precious treat all over the cart and himself. Fortunately, a friendly Target employee was a couple aisles down and came to the rescue with paper towel and kind words. I did not feel sorry for Tommy as I mopped up his pumpkin-stained sandals. Do you know how long I’ve been wanting my first decaf-tall-nonfat-with-whip-pumpkin-spice-latte of the fall? Well, anyway, I think everyone could tell I was flustered after that, because two nice employees offered to help me get the bookshelves out to the car. We’re home safely, I’m still mourning my PSL, and Tommy probably needs a bath after lunch.
Sorry that you lost your drink.
In spite of the tragedy, the story made me laugh! Amazing how one little boy can cause so much trouble. 🙂
Haha! What a naughty little boy! Emily, it only gets worse. I had a nightmare trip to Target yesterday too, and afterwards I swore I was never taking JJ back there again. He refuses to sit in the cart and won’t sit on the big kid attachments either. So a trip that should have taken 15 minutes took an hour because I was busy chasing him around, putting clothes back on hangers and racks, taking bottles of toilet bowl cleanser away from him, and picking up the dozen or so boxes of Kleenex he knocked off of the shelf (on purpose). Add on the fact that I’m not moving around well anymore and have terrible back aches….it was a very long morning. I used to scoff at the women who couldn’t control their children in stores and now I have become that mother! And I only have one kid!
I had a Pumpkin Latte this morning! But from the local coffee shop, not Starbucks. I decided that I like the real Starbucks ones better.
Kathy, the picture you drew is just too close for comfort. Earlier this week I tried to take Tommy to Kohls to buy myself new tennis shoes. After the first 50 or so shoe boxes that he knocked over, I gave up and found the first pair in my size and bought them without trying them on. While I was paying, he ran to the opposite end of the store, completely out of my sight. I was literally running up and down the aisles to find him. And of course he started screaming when I finally hoisted him under my arm and took him to the car! Yeah, I’m THAT mom, too.
