Tommy is in bed, after 14 accidents and about 30 successful potty trips.  He actually napped for two and a half hours and woke up with a dry diaper!  He favors using the potty in the kitchen or back porch.  He’s learned how to pull up and down his big boy underwear.  He is still not telling us very often when he needs to go (hence the TWO loads of underpants we had to do today–I will need to pick up another 7-pack next time I’m at Target).  When he’s having an accident, though, he’s able to stop, rush to the potty, pull down his pants, and finish.  I think that’s progress…

Tomorrow Grandma leaves and Daddy takes over potty duty.  We have him in a diaper tonight, but he definitely knows (and tells Eddie) that big boys wear big boy underwear and only babies wear diapers.

For the few of you who are still reading and interested, there are certain things he just doesn’t want to do in the potty.  I bought a couple train cars this afternoon to add to his Brio train as “extra special poop prizes”, but so far, he hasn’t earned one.  Moms with potty trained kids, should we just keep him in underpants in the 1-3 window when he always does his special business, hoping that he’ll be grossed out one of these days and go in the potty instead?  Or should we switch to pull-ups (which we did today) until that aspect of the day is taken care of?  Advice?

I’m going to keep the area rugs in the library and playroom area pulled up because it’s so much harder to clean liquids off a rug than a bare hardwood floor.  Hopefully the accidents will decrease with time, though…right?

And I’ve eaten probably 500 M&Ms today…way more calories than I burned at the gym this morning!  Lizzie thinks that is just fine–apparently this sweet girl is over her dairy allergy!

I’m certainly no expert on potty training… Laine is finally in the home stretch of a year long process! (Don’t let that discourage you though). Anyway, for your own sanity, I would let Tommy use a pull-up to poop in until you feel like he really knows what he’s doing and is ready to be pushed a little to do it all on the potty. Don’t push him too hard at first or the whole thing could backfire! It’s obviously up to you though, take it for what it’s worth…

I agree with Kat. If he isnt ready to poop in the potty, it could lead to him holding it in or making huge messes. I wouldnt want to deal with either issue! It sounds like you are on the right track though! We are getting ready to work with Aidan in a few weeks.

I can’t give you any advice but I’m totally intrigued by this potty training venture. Please keep the details coming b/c I’ll be training Evangeline before I know it and I need all the insight I can get.

Oh, and I am so glad Lizzie is over the dairy allergy!!! That’s so wonderful for you both. 🙂
