I tried a Martha Stewart recipe for squash and spinach cannelloni with walnut sage sauce tonight. And I realized that while I’m at this stage in life (with a 6 month old who screams every second of the day that she’s not being held), Martha Stewart recipes aren’t a good idea. Because they take a stinking long time and every pot in my kitchen. (Derek is even now tackling the dishes!) And so far, the two or three I’ve tried don’t turn out or taste that great. I need to concentrate on one- or two-pot meals that I can make in under an hour… at least until the kids are bigger. So I’m purging my recipe stash of Martha Stewart magazine clippings. (I’m leaving the dessert ones, though, because I really would like to be able to make chocolate souffle one of these years.) And I didn’t take a picture of dinner or share the recipe, because none of you have time to make this meal. And if you do, would you mind coming to Chicago for a few days to help out with the kids?

oh dear! Welcome to “that stage” — we are just getting out of it. It’s nice. You need to get an Ergo. Then you can carry her in front, on your hip, or on your back while you work. I haven’t tried the back or hip carry yet, but it would make cooking MUCH easier.
I hate Martha too!
I have had some cooking successes lately and have been thinking about starting the blog again (for the what, 5th time?). Hmmm…
Do it, Mariel–I’ll put it back on my blogroll! =)
I have a few Martha baking recipes that are delicious and not too much work… I always look thru Living and find crafts and meal ideas that look so wonderful, but yeah right, I could never take the time to do it!
Ohhh Emily, you poor thing. Way to declare your independence! Who needs Martha, anyway?
ps. She does have lots of quick-and-easy recipes in her Everyday Food magazine, but I only know that because my mom got me a subscription :o)
Ha–hilarious!!!
