I feel like I always am in a fog for about six months after having a baby. Just as I came out of the fog, the holidays came. While it’s wonderful to see friends and family, the past two months have been a nightmare in terms of schedule, sleeping, and routine. We’re still recovering, but I’m starting to come out of the fog and get the kids and myself into a decent routine. I actually typed up a daily schedule, and we’ve done pretty well with sticking to it this past week! I am so happy when I’m on a schedule–it gives me freedom to play with my kids without feeling guilty about not doing housework and to do appropriate housework without feeling guilty about not playing with my kids. Big helps–we’ve stayed in all week because of potty training (not even going out to do errands), and the kids are starting to sleep better again…at long last. I’ve been reading an amazing book on keeping house (book review to come) that has me totally inspired to be a good homemaker!
So that some of you who keep me accountable on such things can know what to ask me about, here’s what I’m trying to do:
6-7 Feed Elizabeth, Quiet Time, get everyone dressed
7-9 Breakfast with Tommy, unload dishwasher, prepare for the day
9-11 Elizabeth naps, daily morning tasks
M—Laundry and errands
T—Clean bedrooms
W—Clean kitchen
Th—Laundry and menu planning
F—Vacuum and dust
12-1 Lunch, read, kids down to nap (or quiet rest time)
1-2 Daily afternoon chore
M—Sewing projects
T—Clean bathrooms
W—Class Prep
Th—Clean downstairs (floors, windows, etc)
F—Odd jobs
2-3 Personal Time
3-5 Play Time with the kids
5-6 Make Dinner
6-7 Pick up downstairs, dinner
7-8 Kids to bed, run dishwasher
8-10 Personal time (read seriously at least 15 minutes)
doesn’t it feel sooo good to get back to just your family at home? So looking at your schedule, what does Tommy do from 7-11????
He eats with me, helps me unload the dishwasher, and we read books and start playing until she goes down. He plays really well by himself, so usually he’s doing duplos or something while I do the housework. If I’m efficient, it gets done in less than an hour, so we can read or do art projects before E wakes up. Lately he’s been wanting to help clean, so I’ll give him the duster or a swiffer to use while I’m cleaning!=) He’s also inspired by a Margaret Cole video where his beloved “Mar-met” is folding her laundry, so lately he’s been “folding” his pants and pjs and putting them in their drawers. His dresser is a mess, but I’m not about to tell any son of mine not to fold and put away his laundry!
Sam’s dresser is a mess, and he isn’t the one putting his clothes away… hmmm….
🙂
