Failed Again

Tommy and I are not on good terms of late.  He woke the other three of us up last night (after his sister had screamed for an hour and a half in the middle of the night) at 4; Elizabeth and I never got back to sleep.  He peed and pooped on the floor of my library today.  He totally lied to me Thursday night that he wanted to be a big boy.  He only wants to be a big boy with big boy pants when it’s convenient.  I wasted Friday, Saturday, and today working on potty training again, because I am basically the only mom I know with a three year old still in diapers, but after some false early hopes, he resisted.  And I did at least three loads of pee-soaked laundry today, and our normal laundry is sitting on the floor of my bathroom, yet to be cleaned.  So I’ve failed at potty training again, and I’m trying hard not to act as mad at Tommy as I feel.

Oh Emily! I know how frustrating potty training a stubborn little boy is! We still struggle with accidents and downright refusals to use the toilet to this day, and JJ’s 3.5! And if it makes you feel any better, when JJ was Tommy’s age he was still in diapers because I had pretty much the same experience as you are having! Hang in there!

I know nothing about potty training, but you’ll make it! You haven’t failed. Don’t blame yourself for Tommy’s stubbornness. He’ll learn – everyone does, right? You’re a great mother. 🙂

I completely agree with Lisa. You have NOT failed! I know its hard to remember when little boys are stubborn and difficult, but, he is just a little guy still. He will learn and get through the potty training. I struggled with Aidan until he was ready physiologically and mentally. Then, it was just a matter of a few weeks and he was done! You are a good mom. Just keep doing your best and let the Lord handle the rest!

And I am pretty sure he won’t go to college in diapers. Take some deep breaths, drink some tea, and call me whenever you want! 🙂

You have not failed!! You are a great mom and he will not be in diapers forever. He is just going through a stage. Hang in there and if you need anything do not hesitate to ask.

Also, there is a book out there called the No Cry Potty Training Solution (by Elizabeth Pantley — I have read other books of hers and really like her)… not sure whose tears they are talking about, mom’s or kid’s, but it might be worth getting from the library. I find her writing style to be incredibly encouraging. You might like encouraging right about now! 🙂
