Below is the exact transcript of Elizabeth’s first story, inspired by the memory of Tommy’s first story. You’ll notice Elizabeth favors the in medias res technique for starting a story.

They had cupcakes and um some tea and some coffee for the boys, and the girls had tea. They had chocolate chips candy things where the sticks go on there and it’s my birthday party and it was fun. And they had chocolate cake and they had purple and pink cakes. Those are my favorite colors: red, green, blue. Somebody bonked their elbow and I think they got a boo boo so they put all the bandaids on the people and they made their mustaches on the people and one boy was sad and they had to go to the doctor and she was crying and there was a lion who bit her leg. It was named Tommy Lizzie. Lizzie was the one who came down really fast. She bumped and the lion came down and bumped and ate her leg. She was so sad and rubbed her eyes and she was so crying, “Mommy, it bit me,” and it was a bad lion because he bumped me. I don’t sleep because I wake up in the morning. “What are you doing?” said Lizzie. “Because I in my house, and that was that,” said momma. Why? Because the prince is taking you to the doctor to fix your leg. “Maybe I don’t have anything to wear!” Okay, just put your leg out and the doctor dentist fixed my leg. Yeah. I drank some tea and I ate some chocolate cake and that made my leg feel better.
One boy was crying. He lost his dog. He’s named Pet. And his dog is named Averdy. I was coming down the stairs with all the flamly and we found a dog and there was he was by his home and we said, “Yeah, we found your dog,” and he said, “I’m so pleased, but that’s not my dog,” and he said, “That’s my dog, that’s the spotted dog!” He was pink and purple with brown dots on him. “I found you!” “No, I found you!” He kissed his mother and father: “Thank you for finding my pet.” So that was the end of the tea party. Because they all went to the doctor to fix they legs, because some are different nurseries where they fix their legs or watch something on the videos. There was videos.
And there was another tea party. It was Tommy’s tea party. Once there was two tea pots with tea and two coffee tea cups and the girls were so sad they wanted some tea but they couldn’t; there was no tea cups. That’s the end. There was no more to tell. Tommy bonked his head. How ’bout you write this up. Tommy bonked his head and the lion bumped him and Tommy bumped into the lion. And he ate HIS leg! And he ate some French radishes, beans, and some carrots. And some salad and some broccoli. And he ate some cake and some tea and some coffee. But the girls stopped crying: “Oh, we can have tea!” they gasped, “Oh Mommy! There is some tea! Yay! We can tea!” said the girls. I think I all done. There’s no more stories.
And that’s only my tea party and Tommy’s tea party.
Very fun story telling. The kitchen looks great, by the way. What a labor of love on your parents’ part!!
