Derek @ Work

Today I hauled the kids over to Malibu in the afternoon to take pictures of all of the Pepperdine law students who got clerkships.  Derek’s one of the clerkship advisers, and they couldn’t get the real college photographer to come up the hill to take pictures, so instead, they asked me.  And then I spent 45 minutes this evening editing the pictures, out of the goodness of my heart, because I am a kind, generous person–the type of person a Pepperdine professor who deserves tenure and a raise would marry.  The kind of person you would want to be living in subsidized on-campus housing, so she could share her kind spirit, amateur photography skills, and better-than-amateur baking skills with the students on a regular basis.  Ahem.

Anyway, while I was figuring out the lighting (nothing says first real photography gig like photographing 10 people in the brightest part of the afternoon!), I made Derek my model (nothing says act natural like standing around for 15 minutes being photographed while students and colleagues are passing by).  This is where the magic happens…
