Janie at 3

Our Jane-Bug turned three yesterday!  She is getting so grown up.  She still has little interest in the potty and wants to be carried places, but her vocabulary and attention span have matured quite a big this year.  She tags along with most of the big kids’ school and activities, so she’s certainly getting the most academically-intense preschool experience of our four.  She loves being read to, coloring, dancing, and playing house/store/Mommy with her sisters.  Because we’re on the go so much this semester, she’s been skipping a lot of naps or taking them in the car, and thank goodness she still transfers out of the car, into the house, downstairs, and into bed.  She and Susie tend to fight and/or party in bed at bedtime and wake each other up at dawn, so that’s interesting.  They also love to be “matching sisters” as often as possible.

Recently I realized that Janie is our LOUD child!  She is so much louder than the other three, and that’s saying a lot!  When all three girls are talking animatedly at the dinner table or in the back of the minivan, I just try to take a deep breath and realize that yes, I married an Italian, and yes, I’m going to have three teenage girls at once, and that is going to be fun, right?  Right?  While Bug has a great vocabulary and yells and sings with the rest of the kids, she still cutely says “dat” and “dis” for that and this: “Susie took dis balloon from me, but I wanted her to have dat one over dere!”

Her hair is getting so long, but I can’t bear to cut it because I think she’ll look too grown up.  She got new dress shoes from one grandma and new cowgirl boots from the other grandma, and if she could wear both at once, she would.  The boys on our Pad don’t know what to do with her and alternately play “save Janie” [from terrorists/Nazis/Star Wars villains/campus security men] and antagonize her until she cries and runs to me for comfort.  Since my broken foot escapades of the past year, Janie now allows Elizabeth to change her diapers, get her dressed/into pajamas, and brush her hair.  She won’t really let Tommy or Susie do much for her, though.  I do love that she never turns down a Mommy snuggle!
