Janie’s 9th Birthday Party

Janie finally got to have a party this year, and she just so happened to know nine girls to invite! She asked for a Mysterious Benedict Society theme, which kinda stumped me since only three of the guests were familiar with the series. We decided to go for a generally bookish, clever children theme.

Shout out to our inspiration material!
We started with a rousing game of Bring Your Own Book, one of our favorite party games. It says 12+, but our 8 year old guests did just fine with a little help from me.
All the girls very quickly caught on to finding silly or perfect lines from their books to match the theme on the card. As one of them said, “Oh! It’s like Apples to Apples with books!”
Then we played Children’s Book Titles charades, pitting sister groups against each other. The Muller-Feller-Nuxoll team narrowly best out the Ford-McDonald sisters!
The our clever girls ran around the house doing a scavenger hunt to find their cupcakes.
Janie baked the cupcakes herself–from scratch, not a mix!
She was quite enthusiastic about the presents.
They ended the party with dress-up time, which I think The Mysterious Benedict Society kids would approve of!
