Milestones

It was 10 years ago this week that I made my first online purchase from a little site called Amazon.com.  Yep, Book #6 in the Left Behind series, called Assassins. Now, to be fair, I was (and am) a developing Evangelical, a rising high school senior anxious to gobble up whatever Evangelical semi-science-fiction I could find and excited to discover the simplicity of this eschatology and of fundamentalism as a whole. Sure, I don’t read the LaHaye books anymore, and I’m no longer a premillennialist, but back in ’99, buying a book online was a big deal (to me, at least–couldn’t just anyone take my credit card number?).

And it was five years ago that I was wrapping up law school orientation, a newly-married 22-year-old whose evenings consisted of scraping labels off of dishes, wondering whether I was going to be able to hack it at Notre Dame (and how exciting football games could really be).

Late August can be fairly nostalgic, don’t you think?

For the record, I made Derek get rid of his entire hardback set of the Left Behind series a long time ago…

Yesterday, D, I was telling Lee that I was pretty sure it was nine years ago that day that I drove you and Joe to Ft. Wayne to visit him in the hospital. I completely missed the “anniversary” of the accident this year, but always do get nostalgic this time of year, too. How in the world, though, do you remember the date you made your first purchase on Amazon?

Ha, well, I don’t “remember.” I let Amazon remember! You can go to “My Account,” “Where’s My Stuff,” “Open and Recently Placed Orders,” and the “See more:” drop-down box goes way, way back through all of your historic orders. Give it a shot!
