Six Years of Wedded Bliss

Six years ago, I pledged my love and faithfulness to a crazy guy who loved God, Detroit, and the color orange, just to name a few.  Thusfar my walk with the Lord has been strengthened, I’ve come to appreciate certain aspects of the Motor City (not enough to live there yet–sorry, Mom M!), and I’ve gotten rid of the most garish of Derek’s orange wardrobe.  But for today, the kids and I coordinated an orange photo shoot especially for Daddy.

I love you, Dear!  Let’s do this for sixty more years, okay?

Six years, really? Bliss? It’s not the word I would use to describe marriage, but wonderful, exciting, nurturing, daring, not for the faint of heart, beautiful, hard, worth it… those are words I would use 🙂

I think the phrase “wedded bliss” accounts for all those contingencies mentioned in the vows–sickness and health (a lot of the former this past couple of years), richer and poorer (I’ve been a lot happier when it’s been the latter), etc… Definitely not for the faint of heart, but also definitely worth the hard work! =)
