This morning we were back to normal silliness after Tommy’s brief stomach bug.  Elizabeth was all smiles…

Tommy cracked us up by putting on his pants the wrong way (inspired by his sister’s attempts to dress herself)…

And everyone was generally affectionate…

Since we had our first real (=enough to play in) snow this morning, Tommy begged me to go outside and play.  We called up Janell and Olivia and asked them to come over and play with us.  I raced around to find appropriate snow gear for everyone, and eventually Elizabeth made it out in Tommy’s 3T snowpants (she wears 24 month clothes) and old hat and scarf with her slightly small snow boots and too-big mittens.  She wasn’t too pleased.

Before Janell had time to dress Olivia and drive over here, Elizabeth had had enough.  She took a nice, unexpected hour and a half morning nap instead.  Tommy fared better in the winter clothes department, as his snow pants, gloves, and hat are all the right size.  He doesn’t have any snow boots, though, so he squeezed into last year’s size 9s.

Not that it mattered, as he lost interest in the outdoors about 5 minutes after Olivia got here.  She was happily rolling down the hill in our back yard and helping shovel the driveway, but Tommy just cried and begged to go inside for hot chocolate.  After several attempts to play in the snow, we gave up and came inside for the rest of the morning for a more “normal” playdate.  Oh well!  Next time the kids will know what to expect, and hopefully by then I’ll have come up with properly-fitting snow attire!
