The kids and I have been itching to go strawberry picking at our favorite fruit farm before we move, and it finally worked out yesterday morning. In preparation, we made sure to read Elizabeth’s current favorite, The Little Mouse, the Red, Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear. She quoted it as she picked. In fact, Elizabeth was the biggest strawberry picking fan–once we explained to her that she should only pick the red ones, she was a woman on a mission! Tommy was a little squeamish about the wet and the mud, but after I promised him that we’d take baths, he carried the pan up and down the rows for us.
The kids wanted to show me every one they picked.
Many were eaten on the field. I wisely (for once) dressed the kids in dark clothes to hide the plethora of strawberry stains.
Next adventure: trying out all of my strawberry pie recipes to determine which one is really the best of the best!

Don’t forget Strawberry Shortcake! Mom loved strawberry time and made great shortcakes!!! Terri
Oooh! You’ll have to share that “best of the best” strawberry pie recipe when you make your decision. I’ve got so many that it’s practically paralyzing! I’m partial to those that incorporate rhubarb, though, and I remember having a seriously delicious one on a visit to your house in Chicago 🙂 Ahh, memories!
