evaquilt.jpgI’ve been doing a good bit of sewing again this week!  First I finished off a baby quilt for my neighbor Katie.  Her daughter Ava Grace joins Tommy’s pal Juliet next door.  Like us, Matt and Katie like to be surprised–so I couldn’t finish the quilt until after the baby was born!  After having accosted Matt outside the first time I saw movement last week, I raced home and quickly put the quilt together with girl colors.  Notice my trademark use of primary colors was limited to the 9-patches…after I’d done them several weeks back, Katie told me that their nursery is all pastels.  I hastily found all the pastels in my fabric stash and made up a couple of borders to make the quilt look more pastelly.

doorguard.jpgAnd we got our first gas bill this week.  After recovering from cardiac arrest caused by the number, I quickly did a check of doors and windows to see if there were any leaky spots that could be fixed.  (We also turned down the thermostat to 55 at night and 62 during the day…don’t know how that is going to go…)  After determining that our two exterior kitchen doors let in tons of cold air, I got instructions from my mom on making these little door guards.  Basically, it’s a tube of fabric with kitty litter inside for weight.  (Note the broom behind Tommy–I had issues with pouring the kitty litter neatly into my tubes…)  Tommy thought they were pretty cool!

Tommy has a space heater, and we have a down comforter. But yeah, I was complaining about 60/65 last winter! =)
