Columbia Notebook, Day Two

Yesterday afternoon Katie got to come over and help my mom and I shop for fabric for the mother-of-the-groom dress, then I headed over to Shepherdsfield for a girls’ night with some of my girlfriends there.  Katie and I took our traditional picture (we have Em-and-Katie shots going back 15 years…), and I got a […]

Weekend with Auntie Laura

Whew…I’m still catching up on the weekend!  Auntie Laura came into town this weekend to visit, help out, and give us a date night, and she really blessed all three and a half of us…I was going to list everything we did, but it would be exhausting just typing it all up!  Suffice to say […]

Finger Painting with Ann Louise!

My dear friend Ann Louise came up from St Louis for a short and sweet weekend visit–and we introduced Tommy to the joys of finger painting!  (We also had great talks, took a walk in the sunshine, and watched Juno, which was excellent, but I didn’t have my camera around for those grown-up activities…)

Wagner and playmates

This past weekend the Nielsens came into town to go see Wagner’s “Tristan and Isolde” with us!  Derek and I had bad luck the one other time we saw an opera together, but this was as fun as four hours and fifty minutes of Wagner can be… =)  (Though for the record, Wagner wasn’t as […]

Happiness is…

…Twinings Lemon-Scented Tea, brought back from England from a sweet friend who always remembers that I can’t find it here in the States.  One sip, and I’m back in Australia, 19 years old, eating fruit and fish-and-chips-without-the-fish on the beach along the Great Ocean Road, drinking tea from a thermos while discussing Elizabeth Gaskell, divine sovereignty, […]

Visit to South Bend

This weekend Tommy and I took a quick visit to South Bend to see some old friends.   Tommy loved staying with his buddy Aidan. The boys were so cute together, and since they’re just two weeks apart, it was fun to see how they’re both into the same things–cars, puzzles, learning to count and say the […]

Good Things

Yesterday was one of those nerve-wracking days where my morning Bible study got cancelled due to snow and negative temperatures, Derek wasn’t able to come home and shovel me out before our evening small group, and I almost got stuck in snowbanks twice driving to small group with Tommy in negative temperatures.  (Derek was coming […]

Christmas and New Years

Well, I was meaning to do this as soon as we got back, but…here’s a brief recap of our break! We left Christmas Eve morning for Missouri…5 stops and 7 hours later, we got there in time to light the advent candle as a family at the Christmas Eve service.  Derek and Tommy got lots […]

Merry Christmas from Pemberley

Gentle Readers, It’s been a full weekend–Hannah and Piko were quickly followed by the Teagues returning from Rome last night!  We’ve seen them safely onto the South Shore Line, and now I’m packing for Columbia, putting off shovelling the snow (pregnant women shouldn’t shovel much anyway, right?), getting the house ready for our next guests (Seth […]

Piko Visits Chicago!

Piko finally visited! He read to Tommy… We did our traditional trip to the Cheesecake Factory and brought home cheesecake to sample later… The guys lounged… Tommy refused to look at the camera… We took our traditional couch picture (since we haven’t the last couple visits)… Tommy says, “Come back soon, Uncle Piko!”
