It took a while to get the girls into their grass skirts and facing the same direction…the first night, Susie melted down during the gift opening. Then she wouldn’t hula with her sister. But we finally figured out that Tommy and Elizabeth just needed to quickly move to wherever Susanna was standing, and I’d snap […]

No Training Wheels
Posted in Tommy on Sep 26th, 2012
While we were gone, Grandma took it upon herself to get Tommy to ride his bike without training wheels! He is very proud of his new skill, and he got to go to Target and pick out a new bike helmet to celebrate his accomplishment!
Homeschool Geography: Tommy’s Albania Notebook
Posted in Homeschooling, Tommy on Sep 21st, 2012
My approach to geography at Tommy’s age is to expose him to countries, making it as hands-on as possible, and to focus on countries for a few weeks at a time where we have a personal connection. Since our friends the Hopsons are missionaries to Albania, we started there! We’re using Window on the World […]
A Peek Inside Tommy’s Notebook

This morning, I sat down and looked through Tommy’s most recently completed notebook of drawings. I saw things to disturb and amuse me… This is a Cars representation of the crucifixion/communion. The small arrows are pointing to “my blood that is poured out for you/the cup being poured” and “my body that is broken for […]

After 13 weeks, we can let out the secret! There aren’t just five of us anymore! Susie’s getting some practice in on being a big sister–she’s glad she finally has someone smaller to sit on her lap! The girls and I saw a healthy baby on the ultrasound today (Tommy, to his chagrin, missed the […]
Last night was Tommy’s first soccer class. He’s just signed up for a little five-week program with our parks and rec department. He was pretty excited, and Derek says he ran around a lot and had fun! And on an unrelated note, I just love the look Susie is giving her big brother here!
The big kids had their dentist’s appointments this morning, and we had some good news and bad news. The good news is that Tommy, who bravely got x-rays, is doing great! He’s brushing and flossing well, and he has no cavities. Keep up the good work, Tommy! The bad news is that Elizabeth’s thumb sucking […]
That’s how late the kids slept in this morning! (Actually, that’s when Elizabeth got up, but the other two stayed down a few more minutes.) It was amazing. Then, of course, the girls danced. And we listened to The Last Battle.

Scenes from Home

This morning, I’m flying down to Florida to see my brother John get his wings. Since I missed his graduation and commissioning (due to an overdue Lizzie), I figured the least I could do was help celebrate finishing flight school! So Derek’s on single parent duty with the kids for four days. Should be interesting. […]
