We always do this when we have a local Chick-fil-a, but this year Tommy designed and executed his own costume.  There’s still such a thing as free lunch!

(bonus–they were out of white milk, so the kids got CHOCOLATE MILK!)

“My-my pillow!”

Susie has been carrying around Pink Blankie and Lionel for a long time now, but she’s recently added her pillow, known as “my-my pillow,” to the mix.  She’ll drag everything to a spot like the middle of the kitchen floor, plop down with an “I tired!”, and settle in for a rest.  Or she’ll bundle it into Cozy Corner, the little spot in the living room between the couch and the bookshelves where the girls do their best playing.

Birthday Tea

Derek surprised me for my birthday by arranging for Elizabeth to take me to the Tea Room for a birthday tea!  It was a great place for a date with a little girl–an armoire full of dress-up dresses, trunks of slippers, feather boas, and gloves, and dozens of hats to try on!  They served Elizabeth her lemonade in a real Crown Dorset tea pot, and she was on her absolute best behavior, sipping daintily with her pinkie out and everything.  We had an absolutely delightful afternoon!

Independence Day

We’ve decided that the Reagan Library Independence Day festivities are going to be an annual tradition.  Like last year, the kids made crafts, we saw reenactors dressed as Founders, and we played patriotic bingo.  Elizabeth was very proud of her wind sock this year!

And she won Bingo and now has a Beanie Baby named Ronnie.  I’m sure he’ll show up in pictures soon.  We grilled out with friends in Moorpark and had patriotic trifle for dessert!

Last night, Grandpa and I took the kids down to our new park to ride bikes.  Elizabeth, who has refused to ride outside the back patio since falling off the curb a few weeks ago, actually rode for several minutes (albeit at a snail’s pace–Susie was walking faster than Lizzie rode).  And Tommy raced around as usual!

Grandpa’s visit was way too short!

Today we took Grandpa to Gardens of the World, known to our kids as “the quiet park,” for a picnic lunch.  It was a little hot to be comfortable, but the kids still seemed to enjoy showing Grandpa their favorite spots!

Tommy even took a picture of me all by himself. He’s pretty excited whenever I let him touch my camera.

Jello Painting

This is one of those art projects that kids love and parents hate.  I can’t begin to describe how sticky.  The kids had fun, but I’m not sure how soon before we do it again.  Maybe we’ll try pudding next!
