Hand-Me-Down Silliness

The kids get a huge kick out of seeing younger siblings wear things that are much too big for them.

Holding the Baby

I’m so enjoying having big kids around with the baby.  They’re both so sweet with her.  The other day, Elizabeth asked if Janie could match her (this girl seriously loves to coordinate) and insisted on having a photo shoot of her holding the baby!

VBS

Today was the kids’ last day of VBS, and they were so proud to bring home their own picture frames!

Janie at three months

I kindof lost track of Janie’s age for a few weeks in there, but I can definitively say that she’s three months old today!  In the past month, she’s mellowed out in the evenings and totally given up her paci in favor of her thumb.  She’s a tummy time champ and prefers sleeping on her tummy, just like all her siblings.  She has rolled front to back several times, but I’ve never actually seen it myself.  If I just gaze at her while she’s nursing, she’ll start smiling and cooing at me.  (If I try to multitask on the computer or reading to the kids, she tends to fall asleep.)  She really does like being held and snuggled.  Over vacation, I let everyone else hold her and realized she was growing up so fast and I just wanted to enjoy her littleness more.  So I’m trying to force myself to just sit and hold her and look at her every day without feeling guilty for not getting other stuff done!

While she’s slept through the night a couple times, she’s more likely to go down around 8, get a dream feed at 10, and wake up again between 3 and 4.  If I’m lucky, 5.  In the past couple of weeks, she’s totally been refusing to take a bottle, so I’m working on forcing it by pumping first thing in the morning and not letting her nurse until she’s taken the bottle.  That works, but it’s a royal pain.  I just remind myself that a child who won’t take a bottle is more of a pain–I learned my lesson with Elizabeth!

And the big kids just adore her.

Naughty Q

Yesterday, while the big kids were at VBS and Janie was napping, I thought I could safely run and get a quick shower.  But Q was busy while I was in the bathroom.  The kids were aghast when they came home and saw their sister’s handiwork.  (To their credit, they both worked quickly to clean it all up after lunch.  Q…not so much…)

Blueberry Picking

Friday morning, we packed into the car with Sarah and James and headed out to Somis to pick blueberries.  The big kids had a great time!

Susie picked about 20 and then melted down completely.  I couldn’t pick her up because I was already wearing Jane.

Temper tantrums aside, I’d call the day a success.  The girls were all worn out and napped, Tommy got to play with James, and we had blueberries on our salad for dinner!

She found it the day we got home (last Tuesday), and she’s looked like this more and more each day.

So far, neither thumb seems to be preferred, though both her sisters only suck their right one.  I guess all three of our girls are destined for braces…

Willett Family Pictures

Okay, it only took me a week to catch up, but here are the last of my vacation pictures.  Unfortunately, we forgot to take a picture with Grandma and Grandpa until the night before my dad left for Brazil, so we had to get one at bedtime.  Every time I’m home, I wish Derek could get a job at Mizzou so we could live on Stewart Road and just walk over to my parents’ in the evenings.  Sigh.

And we loved all the time we spent with Peter and Cammy!  It was a nice change of pace for Derek and Janie and me to stay at their place while the big kids stayed and Grandma’s.  We talked way too late and had a really fun double date at 44 Stone.  Peter was off for the summer and spent most of the days playing legos with Tommy, swimming with us at the Arc, and swinging around the kids.  Cammy is so amazing…I’m glad she’s married into the family so that we’re guaranteed to be friends for the rest of our lives!
