Yep, that’s half a hamburger bun.  She’s decided she likes that better than the little pieces I was tearing up for her.  9 month pictures to follow…

A Little Story

When I was 16, I used to babysit for a sweet family from church who had a 4 year old, 2 year old, and (I think) a baby.

They had these beautiful blue and white dishes that were well-loved and chipped.  I loved the style so much that I made sure to register for them when we got married.

Now our dishes are chipped, too.  The end.

Sneak Peek

January 17 snuck up on me this year, what with weekend company and all, so Grandpa Willett, here is a sneak peek of what you’re getting in the mail in a few days!

Useful Skirts

Elizabeth is at that skirt stage all of a sudden–the one where you have to trick her into wearing pants or settle for leggings under a skirt.  She’s re-obsessed with the summer’s favorite sundress, and she’s finding new uses for it daily.

Why not use your skirts to pick up toys and move them two feet?

Three in the Tub

One of the most fun developments of the past month has been the addition of Susie to the bathtub!

Whenever the big kids get in the tub, she clearly wants to join them.

And the big kids love having her in the tub, too!

An Oldie but a Goodie

Derek uploaded some of our summer (!) videos this week.  Here’s one of Elizabeth singing hymns.

Duplo Guns

I knew it was coming, but it shocked me to hear Elizabeth last night telling me, “Mommy, look at Veronica and Duncan on my gun!”  I know that kids will make anything into a gun, but it was the first time it had happened in our home.  And she’s my girlie girl!

Then Tommy emerged from his room dressed up in his Marine flight suit…I think he’s trying to be tough and not smile.

I guess they’re trying to make their uncles proud!

Best Christmas Present Ever

Squeals abounded in the female part of the Muller family when Pride and Prejudice: A BabyLit Board Book was opened.  I’ve actually given this amazing toddler book to friends, but I couldn’t justify buying it for ourselves until birthdays or something.  Fortunately, Uncle John saw it on our amazon wishlists and decided he’d take responsibility for introducing his nieces to “the world of bonnet movies” (I’d prefer to say, to “the greatest novels in the English language”).

Don’t you just want to teach your daughters to count with Pride and Prejudice?

“Two English Gentleman” (Elizabeth, right after I snapped this picture: “That’s Mr DARCY!!!!!”)

“Four marriage proposals” (Elizabeth: “Misser Collins say we marry, and Lizzy say NO WAY!”)

Preschool Update

Tommy and I have both enjoyed getting back into the swing of things at home and recommencing preschool.  His reading skills really took off over Christmas, and Derek keeps telling me to get going on phonics so that he’s learning the right rules and not just guessing all the time (though he usually guesses right).  One side effect of our phonics program is that he’s actually learning a ton of new vocabulary.  Every time he reads a new word, he either uses it in a sentence (unprompted by me) to show he knows what it means or asks me what it means.  Sometimes I really have to think about how to explain a meaning to him.  He’s also increasingly aware of unknown words in songs or whatever.  Yesterday we were listening to Christmas songs in the car (I know, I know…) and he asked me what “virgin” meant.  It took me a minute to realize he was asking about Mary!  Today he told me, “Mommy, I just love math!”  (Mostly because we’re doing a lot of coloring and counting games.)  Because I want to keep our official school time down, we haven’t done a ton of French lately.  But today we pulled out a French animals memory game, and he beat me fairly.  For now, I love being a homeschooling mom!

The Haircut in Daylight

Finally got these off the camera!

And here you get to see the hair AND the fashion sense.  Pink striped sweater over pink shirt.  Purple skirt over purple leggings.  Striped sweater and striped socks.  They match!  (I am responsible for her wearing her brother’s hand-me-down crocs, though.  And I just realized that Tommy is wearing shorts, socks, and crocs.  Not sure what to say about that combo.)
