Tommy, emerging from the back porch: Mommy! Look, I am playing the bo-bo just like Grandpa Willett! Doo doo doo. (marches around kitchen, playing his instrument)
Mommy: Do you mean oboe? You made that all by yourself?! (rushes for camera before duplo oboe gets broken)

Last night we went to see the State College Spikes game. It was the Little One’s first game!
Tommy carefully checked the program for the picture of each new player up to bat.
Elizabeth made friends up and down the seats.
She really got into clapping when our team did well!
Tommy sees Ike the Spike just a few rows behind us!!!!
He got to show Ike the Spike his car and even sit on his lap for a picture!!!!!
Meanwhile, his sister took over his seat and decided that she liked it.
And of course, we all had to get hot dogs…normally, I discourage my husband and kids from eating them, but somehow, at a baseball game, they just hit the spot!

A lot of the preschool workbooks I’ve seen seem to focus on patterns, but Tommy’s not ready to draw specific shapes, numbers, or letters. So I was overjoyed when I saw that Target’s dollar spot had a bunch more foam stickers this week. I picked up every variety, and we’ll be using them for “worksheets” for the next several weeks.
First I let him go at it with the people and animal stickers while I created a worksheet for him. I just told him to alternate shapes without paying attention to colors. He could handle man, woman, man, woman on his own and just needed a little prompting on the others.
Then I created some more challenging shapes patterns for him to finish. He does need to be talked through them a little bit, so I might backtrack and just leave one space for him to finish next time.

This little girl sure does love shoes! She’s always on the watch for shoes the rest of us forget to put away. Yesterday she came into the kitchen wearing one of Tommy’s sandals on the wrong foot, and later I found her trying to fit into my flip flops!

Elizabeth is 15 months old today! Right after breakfast, I dressed her up for a little ballerina photo shoot. She has her check-up in a couple more weeks, so I’ll post her stats then…
Besides learning to walk in the past month (and she’s pretty much given up crawling entirely), Elizabeth has finally taken to books. I was starting to wonder if she wasn’t going to be a bookworm like the rest of us, but in the past few weeks, she’s started listening through whole books, bringing me books to read, and carrying them all over the house with her. She’s babbling a lot, though it’s hard to tell what she’s saying. I have caught specific things, but the only solid words she uses on a regular basis are “Hi!” and “Mama”. She also loves to sing during family worship time and in church–though she’s not matching pitches or carrying a tune yet! Tommy is still pretty much her favorite person in the world–every morning and after every nap, her whole face lights up when he comes in with me to get her up! Speaking of naps, she’s flirting with dropping the second nap. We did about five days with just one, but the past couple of days, I could tell she needed that morning nap, and she’s done two again.

Both kids have always loved laundry day. Yesterday afternoon, Tommy napped late, so Elizabeth and I had fun with the laundry basket together! I sure hope this means she’ll help me with the laundry for real in a few years…
