Happy Easter!

Four Kids, One Room

This week, in anticipation of Uncle Matthew’s visit, Janie officially made the transition to the big kid bed.  Of course, Susie got jealous and insisted we pull out the old crib mattress so she could have a bed of her own.  But Elizabeth loves having “my favorite baby” snuggle with her.  She came in after Janie’s first full night in bed and exclaimed, “This is the happiest day of my life, because Jane-Bug stayed in bed all night long!”  Janie is still napping in her crib so that the kids can play (or Susie can nap) in their bedroom in the afternoons, but not for much longer.

Tommy, meanwhile, is eagerly awaiting the move to Janie’s room.  As soon as we find an affordable loft bed on craigslist, he’ll have a room of his own!

Always a good time…

Pictures of This Week!

What do you know, the computer decided to let me download pictures today.  Tommy’s off at baseball camp, so the girls and I painted toenails and are making lemon curd (my helpers are stirring while I blog).

Playing at the Chocolate Castle park before their photo shoot on Friday. Because nothing says "take it easy while Derek is out of town" than driving the kids an hour to have a photography session with a stranger out on the bluffs overlooking the ocean, at 6 pm on a Friday. Yeah.

Tommy was bummed not to get to play little league this spring (I couldn't commit to four practices/games a week with three other children in tow), but the college just down the street had a spring break baseball camp that one of our friends was doing. Tommy is having a great time, and today I just dropped him off and let him check himself in. He's getting old!

Crib Days Are Numbered

I haven’t been posting because my blasted computer isn’t accepting my card reader again.  I have cute pictures but no way to share them!

In the meantime, we’re getting Janie ready to move in with the big kids.  This week is our first dry run before Uncle Matthew comes this weekend and her room gets turned into a guest room for a few days.  Tonight she cried and cried in her crib, so we let her have wind-down time with her sisters.  Then she told us she wanted to stay in bed with them at lights-out.  Susie couldn’t find Old Lionel, though, so it was quite active and unsettled even with the lights out.  At 9:40 pm, Janie waddled out to grab a book from the family room, and that was enough of that.  I swept her up and put her back in her crib, much to her displeasure.  We’ll try again tomorrow!

In other news, Janie has been going potty on the potty chair about once a day.  I haven’t had to change a dirty diaper on Susie for about three days.   It’s amazing what Frozen stickers will do to motivate an almost-four year old to use the bathroom.

Tommy and Janie had their check-up with Dr. Vallance this morning, and everything looked good!  Nobody cried during blood pokes or Janie’s shot.  It went as well as an hour in a tiny room with four children can go.  The crazy thing is that Janie’s weight is a little under Susanna at the same age, but in general, those two seem to share the same growth trends while the big two share a similar pattern.  Since Janie has always trended in the 40s on the weight charts, it’s not a concern, and we got the go-ahead to put her on 1% milk with the rest of the family.  I’ve still been giving Q whole milk since I’m buying it for Bug, but Dr. Vallance said we might as well all just switch now.  Only one kind of milk in the fridge for the first time in 8 years!!!

Janie is Two!

The Bug is two.  She’s such a joy.  And it’s crazy to think that her sisters already had a little sibling by her age.  Because she’s the baby, I’ve been in denial that she’s getting to be a big girl.  But in the last few weeks, she’s started sitting at the table (bye-bye, high chair!), wanting to walk everywhere rather than be carried, talk in sentences (and say “Thank you, Mommy!” all the time), trying to go potty every time I take her diaper off (with no success, but at least she’s trying harder than Susie), and developed the most adorable little arms-back-chest-thrust-forward run.

Ariana and I are doing a better job of monthly field trips this spring, and today we met up at the Long Beach Aquarium.  It was Janie’s first time, and she LOVED it!
