Please pray for our family.

Peter and Cammy lost their baby girl this week.  She was 41.5 weeks along.  Please pray for them and for the grandparents (Dan and Mary, Paul and Chris) who were able to all be with them in the hospital tonight.

Underwood, Fall 2014 edition

Our new church is continuing to bring blessings.  Yesterday we met up at Underwood Farms with another homeschooling family from PCC.  Janette is from the Midwest, most recently came from PA, taught at a Christian school before having kids, and homeschools her four boys.  They live in Sherman Oaks, so we won’t be able to get together on a weekly basis or anything, but we’re already planning to coordinate homeschool field trips!

And as usual, the kids loved the pumpkin patch.

Soccer

Tommy is really running hard in soccer.  This weekend the other Tommy passed him a ball right in front of the net for a perfect shot by our Tommy.  Great teamwork, Tommys!  Despite scoring a goal, it was a rough day as the other #10 taunted him and knocked him over right at the end of the game (just a second after I took the second picture–you can see what’s about to happen).  While soccer is a huge time drain for us this fall, it’s good for Tommy to have a chance to toughen up with other boys.

Lego Girl

Elizabeth loves legos almost as much as Tommy!  This afternoon she’s happily playing by herself, making some beautiful pink and purple creations for her Lego Friends.

Back to Normal

After a day of adjustment, we’re pretty much back to normal around here.

And the kids are conscientiously coloring for school.  Latin vocab.

In Two States

Tommy had a grand time with Grandma and Grandpa this weekend–here’s a picture they sent of him at the Cider Mill!  I’m a little bit jealous!

Meanwhile, the girls and I dealt with 103 degree heat (and power outages) by…doing nothing.  Seriously.  We went to JoAnn’s and got fabric to sew dresses, costumes, and Christmas pajamas, and Elizabeth’s sewing machine has been out for two days, but they just wanted to play.  So I let them.  And we’ll be forcing ourselves back to normal routines (and putting away the sewing machine) this afternoon when the boys get home!

Moms need friends, too.

Today the girls and I had a play date with another family from CBS.  They moved here from KY last year, and Madalyn was in Elizabeth’s CBS class, but we somehow never connected.  We recognized each other a few weeks ago at the library during an hour which immediately indicated we were both homeschoolers, and we immediately hit it off.  Our park date today was super comfortable and fun–we have so, so much in common, and amazingly, they live just a few blocks away in the neighborhood next to ours.  We can literally both just walk to meet at the park whenever we feel like it.  I told my mom afterwards that I can just feel that Alison is going to become a really good friend.  God does answer prayers!

Last night Sarah and I combined our leftovers and did dinner at their house since Josh was down at the Royals game and my guys were gone.  It has really been a blessing to have them move so much closer, although I owe Sarah about 100 favors and about 1000 babysitting hours.  She was saying last night that there are friends, and there are useful friends.  Janie woke up from her nap with that whole pooped-in-her-diaper-and-pulled-it-off-and-smeared-it-everywhere routine that she likes to do, and fortunately Sarah and I had planned to repeat yesterday’s success, so I just bathed Janie, scrubbed the poop off the tub, crib, carpet, and walls, threw all the gross laundry in the washer, and took the girls over to Sarah’s for dinner.  A useful friend, indeed!

Egyptian Reliefs

We’re learning about the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt by Pharaoh Menes, and today the kids colored reliefs based on stories of his life.  And of course they insisted on taking pictures to put on the blog.  It’s quite a meta life they live–should I be concerned?
