Farm Share, Week 17

We got fruit this week!  Apples and apricots mean I really won’t have to buy any produce.  I’ll be using the new potatoes with last week’s cauliflower in a spring soup tonight, served with fresh green beans.  We’ll use the broccoli in a stir-fry, and the cucumber will make a great snack for my cuke-loving […]

Tommy's New Room

Actually, he’s in the same space, but we redecorated and switched out the bed with one that will bunk eventually.  Derek dreamed up the robots and spaceships theme, and we’ve been picking things up for it over the past three years!  Special thanks to Christina for helping me find some of the accessories!

Farm Share, Week 16

A great variety this week…swiss chard, cherries, cauliflower, purple basil, zucchini, cucumbers, and onion.  Since we’re going to be travelling this weekend, I’m going to try to throw a lot of this into a big pasta salad for the car.  Yum!

Farm Share, Week 15

Today’s farm share was all green!  I’m excited because I love summer veggies, and these will all be easy to incorporate into my menu planning.  Tonight we’re going to have a salad with the lettuce and one of the cucumbers to go along with a meat pie I pulled out of the freezer.  Tomorrow we’ll […]

Tommy's New Dresser

Okay, we’ve had this for over a month, but I just managed to get it up to his room last week when Laura and Stephen were here… Tommy’s new dresser!  Elizabeth is inheriting our vintage red one that belonged to her Grandpa Muller, so Tommy needed a big boy one.  I got this one for […]

Farm Share, Week 13

This week’s farm share had lettuce, cabbage, kohlrabi, broccoli, and swiss chard (finally!).  Although I did have a meltdown yesterday where I destroyed dinner and had to dump the whole thing in the trash (Tommy ended up having a slice of storebought bread and an egg; Derek and I had dinner during our date night instead of […]

Attitude Check

This past week I had one of those “Oh my goodness!” moments where I realized the enormity of what I’ve taken on to raise a daughter.  With Tommy I remember the overwhelming sense of responsibility in training him up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and of course I want to direct Elizabeth’s […]

Farm Share, Week 12

This week is more like it!  Our farm share box was nice and full, and we should be able to use everything.  With green and red leaf lettuce and a big bag of baby spinach, we’re set for salads for the week!  Another pint of fresh strawberries…yum!  The big head of kale and the bunch […]

Elizabeth has been read to a lot so far, mostly because Tommy wants me to read to him whenever his sister is on my lap.  Sometimes she just wants to look at pictures during her tummy time, too.  I decided that we could start our homemaking lessons early, using Blueberries For Sal.  Can’t you tell […]

Farm Share, Week 11

One interesting thing about having a farm share is that we’ve become very aware of how late the growing season is this year (due to the unusually cool weather).  That means that our farmer’s crops are still scanty, and this week’s box was the smallest yet.  But that’s okay–I haven’t exactly had time for trying […]
