I think this is two week’s worth. We won’t be here next Wed, so if we get a box, the creepy raw foods restaurant where we pick up our boxes will just get to keep our veggies. Ah, root vegetables!

Avocados were on sale, so I decided to introduce those to Elizabeth today. She LOVED them, and she loved being able to feed herself with her mesh ring! Mullers are 4 for 4 fans of avocados!

So I bought something from a kosher store…and along with my way cool purchase (to be featured later), they sent me a special chanukah present–a dairy labelled spoon to make sure I have a kosher kitchen! Woo hoo! Just what I always wanted!

Time flies. Faster than it did with Tommy. Our little girl turned 7 months yesterday, and unfortunately I was too stuffed up/dizzy/tired to celebrate properly. What a difference a month makes! In the past week or so, she’s dropped her third nap (it stinks for dinner prep, but it’s great to put both kids down at 1 pm, even if Tommy doesn’t actually sleep). Her diet has also changed–now she’s just nursing four times and eating three meals a day, generally around 8, 12, and 5. When the pediatrician told me she’d be up to three meals so soon, I didn’t really believe her, but wow! Solids definitely are a hit! So far she’s had rice cereal, oatmeal cereal, pears, apples, green beans, sweet potatoes, squash, pumpkin, and peas (enjoying them below). I’m making the easy baby food, but I’m buying the tougher stuff to have for easy on-the-go meals. Next up: apricots, peaches, and blueberries. It’s going to be a fun couple of weeks!
The kids and I are all battling yucky colds, and I’ve spent all of Elizabeth’s sleeping hours in bed, too. Thankfully, Derek’s home to take care of all of us and bring Tommy and me juice and movies (we’ve been wrapped up in his bed watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang this afternoon)… I am SO thankful for a helpful husband!

Lots of material for baby food here, though I’m definitely going to enjoy that butternut squash myself. With the potatoes left over from last week, I might be making pasties again! It’s definitely the season.=)

We’re having trouble with a child sleeping through the night and napping. No, it’s not Lizzie, the 12 hours-last-night champ. It’s Tommy, who refused to nap yesterday (after 2 hours of discipline, pleading, etc), was awake from 1-4 am this morning, and refused to nap again today. What to do? I can handle being deprived of sleep by a baby, but not by a big boy…
See, don’t they look cozy? Wouldn’t you want to sleep on a cool bed like this?

Tommy was a big helper this year as we decorated the tree! He had so much fun that I let him decorate my little dorm room tree this morning. Most of the ornaments ended up on the same branch, one on top of the other, but he loved it! Of all the places throughout the house, he wanted his little tree to be right next to the big tree…

After 5 1/2 years of gaming with just the two of us, we were super excited to introduce Tommy to his first real game–Gulo Gulo! Tommy loved having a family game night! He wanted to read the directions just like Daddy, and he quickly caught on to the rules. I’m so thrilled that we’ve reached the stage where we can play games together as a family!
A brief game review: We were introduced to Gulo Gulo at the Talcott’s, where Ellie (3 at the time?) did quite well at it. We’ve been wanting to pick up a good little kid game, and this really fit the bill. The rules are simple–Tommy understands to take turns flipping tiles and picking out an egg of the right color–and it goes pretty quickly for short attention spans that can’t sit still through Candyland. The goal is to pick eggs out without knocking over the stick, and little fingers do that better than older ones, so adults are at the right amount of disadvantage to have little ones win fair and square. It’s more expensive than your standard toy aisle kid’s games, but considering that we’ve already played it half a dozen times, I think it will be a good investment. All in all, we’d definitely recommend this game for little gamers in the making!
